Graduate medical education is broken, and it’s time to fix it.
The NRMP match creates an unfair monopoly in the residency job market, leaving resident physicians powerless and vulnerable to mistreatment. Stripped of negotiation leverage, residents endure suppressed wages and toxic working environments that compromise their well-being. Coupled with the burden of crushing medical school debt and no real lateral mobility, many residents struggle to leave toxic programs.
The Coalition for Residency Reform (CRR) is dedicated to transforming the residency training system into a fair and equitable process. We strive to empower residents by advocating for systemic changes that prioritize their well-being, enhance working conditions, and ensure fair compensation. Our mission is to dismantle the monopolistic structures that perpetuate burnout and mistreatment, and to cultivate a community where residents can thrive both personally and professionally. Together, we will promote a residency system that values the voices of its members and fosters a culture of respect, support, and excellence in medical training.
